Robbed at Orchard Road! wriiten by Felix Chua P4 . Well done!

"Robbed at Orchard Road!  Felix Chua P4 Mee Toh Primary School

"I wonder what John would like for his birthday." I mumbled to myself as I strolled along Orchard Road underpass. It was a crowded Sunday as the Singapore Sale was on.

I was at the Orchard Road underpass walking along there thinking what to buy for John. "Maybe , I will get him a Smiggle pencil case." I exclaimed at the idea. Suddenly, from not far ahead of me, I heard a melodious tune within the underpass. I saw a visually handicapped man playing the guitar. I walked forward to him and stopped a while to listen to the melodious music. I was about to take out my wallet to donate some money when suddenly a man snatched the donation box from the handicapped man.

Momentarily, I was shocked . I stood rooted to the ground before I recomposed myself and ran after him as fast as my legs could carry me. However, I was no match for him. He was too fast for me. An idea struck me , I started shouting," Robbery , catch that man in stripes!! Suddenly, a lot of people join in the chase with me. We joined forces and the cooperation was amazing.

I noticed the robber banged into someone in front, he fell on the floor and was whining in pain. A few of us rushed forward and held him down. He apologized and pleaded for us to not turn him over to the police. The people around me decided to return the donation box back to the handicapped man and let the matter rest.

From that day onwards, I always remembered the incident while walking along the underpass in Orchard road.

A well written essay by our P3 student Darius Tham on mistaken identity

"A mistaken identity" by Darius Tham P3-7 Mee Toh Primary School

"Today's math test was so easy!" I mumbled to myself as I was walking home from school. The sun was scorching hot in the sky. I was perspiring profusely. I was eager to go home and make myself a cup of icy "Ribena".

As I was walking towards  my flat, I saw a tall, bulky man walking towards me. I felt butterflies in my stomach as he has shifty eyes and looked scary. He was talking to himself as he walked towards me. I intend to launch an attack on him when he came nearer.  As he walked closer to me, I hit him with my file! The next moment was unbelievable! His Bluetooth device dropped out from his ear! I felt so embarrassed. He yelled at me, " What are you doing little boy?" I stammered,"Sorr...Sorry, Uncle!"

I felt very guilty seeing him nursing the bruise. He picked up his Bluetooth device and stomped away in anger. I felt so guilty and confused. How could I be so careless? I had actually hurt someone who was innocent. I walked home in guilt.

I went home and told my parents about it. It was a lesson learnt. I will never act before thinking through things carefully again!

Teacher's comments:

Primary 3 - Picture Composition- Character highlight

Part of our learning composition skills is to understand a character and using a character to start the essay.

The following was written by our student Gennie Poh P3 from Yio Chu Kang Primary. She used the character strategy to start the composition. The story flows fluently and conversation was added to make the story interesting. Good Job Gennie! Keep it up!

Mr Lim is a kleptomaniac. He enjoys the thrill of getting away with items he pickpockets. Every now and then , he will find delight in pinching things from stores.

Last Friday, Mr Lim was at Hougang Mall. He saw a sea of people as there was a sale going on. His heart skipped a beat when he saw a wide variety of items.

He had been thinking of buying a wallet for himself. Suddenly, he saw a grey wallet on the shelf. A naughty idea came to his mind. He secretly took the grey wallet and put it in his bag. His heart was pacing fast. He shot darting eyes everywhere hoping that no one had noticed him.

As he walked towards the exit, the security alarm sounded. Mr Lim's face turned pale. He stood rooted to the ground. "Excuse me sir, are you sure you have pay for everything?" asked the security guard. Mr Lim did not know what to do. Just then, a man walked by. "Hey! You are the one who stole a grey wallet ! I saw you stealing!" shouted the man. "No! I ... I didn't ..." Mr Lim avoided his steady gaze.

The security guard immediately brought Mr Lim to the police station. He was under arrest and was put in prison for two years. Mr Lim had learnt his lesson and promised himself that he would never steal again.

Continuous Writing Essay

Written by Yeap Xiang Luan Pri 4 Mee Toh Primary School

You were walking home from school one day when you saw a man walking towards you, and talking to himself.

Based on the above situation, write a story of at least 120 words.

"Mr Toh was fiercer than usual today. I wonder what was up with him." I mumbled to myself. I was walking home by myself after school to enjoy my mother’s handmade lunch. Suddenly, I saw a shaggy looking rotund man looking at me. He was walking towards me and mumbling to himself. His mouth opened from time to time. I felt as though there was a threat in the air. As the man got closer, I grimaced as I walked just inches away from him.

Suddenly, from the corner of my eye, I saw him whipping out a handkerchief from his pocket and covered my nose. Everything turned black as I fell unconscious. When I woke up , I was tied to a chair, with my mouth stuffed with the handkerchief I saw earlier. I was in an old hut and the rotund man was standing in front of me. "You’ll stay here until your father, Mr Lim, pays me!" he bellowed. I started to panic. The man had mistaken me for someone else. My father was Mr Ng. Beads of sweat started trickling down my forehead. My heart was racing really fast.

I struggled so much that my wallet fell out of my pocket. The rotund man picked it up. Then he looked inside. He must have realised he caught the wrong person as his face looked puzzled while looking at my student card. Minutes later, I was covered with another handkerchief and when I woke up I heard rumbling sounds. I was in a truck. The truck stopped and the man lifted my up and untied my hands and left me on the roadside. He then drove off. It was very late as there was no one around me except the traffic lights blinking in the distant.

Luckily I had some stashed up money in my pocket. I waited a long time for a taxi to appear. When I reached home, I saw my parents standing at the gate with worried look on their faces. There were two other police officers with them. I ran up to them, they hugged me tightly as I recounted the event to them.

After reporting the incident to the police officers, they left. I could not imagine what would have happened if my wallet had not fallen out. Sigh! I was very relieved that I was safe at home

An Unusual Pet

Jane received a special gift for her birthday. It was an unusual pet – a pig. She named it Kongy. It was given to her by her uncle who owns a farm. One sunny day, Jane brought Kongy to the park for a walk. When Kongy went home, he was covered with mud. Mom was very displeased with the dirtied floor.

Mother was always angry at Kongy. One day, it was raining cats and dogs, Kongy saw a patch full of mud. His eyes glittered when he saw that. Kongy ran towards the mud and made a big mess.

Kongy was very happy. On the other hand, Mother was very angry. She could not control her anger and screamed loudly at him. Kongy was very naughty and Mother and Father had no choice but to send him away. Jane kissed Kongy goodbye. Jane felt very sad but she remembered the good times they had.

A Fight at Recess Time

Ring!! It was recess time! The sun was scorching hot in the sky. The netball girls rushed to the school field to practice for the upcoming competition.

The girls were playing intensely when suddenly , Jane gave Lisa a hard shove . “OUCH!” Lisa cried. A sharp pain radiated through Lisa’s back , causing her to groan loudly.

“Jane, you did that intentionally!” Lisa snapped angrily. Lisa was hopping mad. Lisa’s voice was cold and hard. She stomped in front of Jane. Lisa raised one hand and dealt a stinging blow on Jane’s face. Blood started to trickle down Jane’s nose. A fight ensued.

“Hey! What are you doing there?” The discipline master bellowed. Lisa and Jane knew that they were going to face the music. They lowered their heads and kept their lips pursed. They had no choice but to accept the punishment.
